Schlagen Sie eine KorrekturFlorence Cathedral, formally the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore ([katteˈdraːle di ˈsanta maˈriːa del ˈfjoːre]; in English "Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower"), is the cathedral of Florence, Italy (Italian: Duomo di Firenze). It was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to a design of Arnolfo di Cambio and was structurally completed by 1436, with the dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink, bordered by white, and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

A good guide book will help get the most out of your visit here. Plenty to see inside, and the sculptures outside the main entrance,and flanking the side of the Duomo are well worth studying too.
Re-purposed Greek Temple that still shows its Grecian architecture.Very interesting to see and get a sense of what a temple may have been like for the elements left behind.
Beautiful cathedral but not grandiose.The focal point of the piazza and perfectly located near restaurants and other worthwhile attractions. Quiet, lovely place.
It is an amazing building, starting from the baroque facade to the interiors and chapels. The columns, once a part of a Greek temple, are a very special feature of this masterpiece.
What a lovely place to visit a lovely square from where you could walk freely around the rest of the area and see all the little shops and cafes .
